THE BANSHEE ZONE
Vito's 404 Big Bore + Adams Racing Porting

This page is the first page describing my port job and a 404cc big bore engine kit that I purchased for my Banshee, its made by Vito's Performance and raises the engine cubic centimeters to 404.  The kit comes with 2 big bore performance ported sleeves designed by Vito,  these sleeves can also be used for long rod motors.  The pistons are Vito's Power Pistons with dual angle domes and massive intake ports on the skirts, the pistons are matched for the big bore sleeves.  The piston skirts are extra thick so they can stand up to the toughest conditions.  The Power Pistons use a new lightweight design to improve low end torque, and adds up to 10psi of cranking pressure for faster acceleration and more horsepower.  These pistons are designed by Vito and made in the U.S.A. by Wiseco with the best forging possible.  The base gasket is a Vito's custom port matched base gasket, and a new head gasket is included in the kit along with new piston pins, top end bearings and clips. I bought my 404 kit from MobileDyno.com at a price of $470 bucks. Vito's Performance will install the big bore sleeves in your cylinders for an additional $320. I had my big bore cylinders ported for motocross by Bill Adams\Adams Racing out of New Jersey. Bill Adams goes by name "BansheeGuy" in the ATV Connection and BansheeHQ forums.  Bill also did the installation of my new sleeves and did the satin finish polish work on the juggs.

This page will show some pictures of the porting work, cylinder polishing and some pics of the installed sleeves and the Power Pistons..........

I'll start off with the satin finish work on the juggs.  Bill Adams did the polish work and it came out looking 100 times better than I could ever ask. I highly recommend the satin finish, its just plain bad-ass looking !!!

Bill Adams performed my porting work.
After some detailed E-mails with Bill Adams discussing setup and what im looking for in a port job, I decided I on a motocross(MX) style port job. You can re-shape your ports for all sorts of different power curves, the MX style port job is designed to take away the "light switch" type powerband found on many modified Banshees and smooth out the powerband, turn it into a killer trail engine with a powerband that is easy to ride yet brutal and with a broader powercurve than the "light switch" powerband.  What is a "light switch" powerband !???!  It describes a powercurve that is "peaky". The powercurve is like a light switch...... the power was either ON or OFF, making it a fun wild ride, but difficult and tiresome after a long day of trail riding. The MX port job broadens out the powercurve and is designed for fast trail riding and of course.... motocross racing.  MXers prefer a smooth "Honda 250r" type powercurve.

The exhaust tunnel was polished smooth and to a mirror finish. I could see the reflection of my finger in the metal of the tunnel. A true work of art.

These are the Vito's PowerPistons that come with the 404 kit. The piston on the left is a .080 Wiseco piston, the piston on the right is the Vito's PowerPiston.

Compare the intake port windows on the two pistons, you can see how thicker the Vito's pistons are.
LARGE CUTOUT ON THE VITO'S PISTON

The top ring on the Vito's piston is just slightly lower than the Wiseco's top ring.  The 2 pistons have a piston pin holding them together. The Vito's piston skirt is much shorter.

             BIG DIFFERENCE IN SKIRT LENGTH

Here you can get a good look at the thickness of the Vito's piston. Vito's on the right.... Wiseco's on the left.

The cylinder head that Im using is a Performance Trixx head that uses interchangeable domes.  The smaller the dome cc's the more compression your engine will have.  With the new Vito's 404 sleeves I could no longer use the standard bore size domes that I used to run.  The big bore sleeves needed "big bore domes".  I have 2 sizes of standard size domes that I used to run... a set of 22cc domes and a set of 20cc domes.  Both pair of domes allowed me to use regular pump gas in the tank.  The only really safe dome size for the 404 kit that allows me to continue using pump gas is the size 24cc big bore domes. The Power Pistons can add up to 10psi of compression to the motor.  Click here to see the CoolHead Compression Chart page.  The next few pictures show all 3 sizes of domes.......
